Dating to the Edwardian era, circa 1900–1910, this beautifully handcrafted brooch is fashioned in sterling silver and centres around a generously sized rectangular natural bloodstone agate cabochon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bloodstone is a wonderful deep forest green, with its natural markings and inclusions giving the stone plenty of character. Rather than a conventional setting, the stone is held within an wonderfully elaborate handcrafted silver framework, with curling whiplash scrolls, little silver spheres and stylised botanical details wrapping around the sides and corners.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design is wonderfully typical of the Art Nouveau movement, which celebrated flowing lines, asymmetry and forms inspired by vines, flowers and the natural world. I especially love how the silverwork almost appears to be growing around the stone rather than simply holding it in place!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBLOODSTONE\u003cbr\u003eBloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is a variety of chalcedony traditionally characterised by a deep green body with occasional red or reddish-brown inclusions.
