Now THIS is special… A beautiful Tibetan/Himalayan Buddhist mala-style necklace centred by an ornate sterling silver Ga'u (Ghau) prayer-box amulet.
The cylindrical Ga'u is incredibly detailed, covered in delicate silver filigree scrollwork, granulation-style beading and raised decorative borders. Traditionally, Ga'u boxes were made as portable sacred containers, worn close to the body and used to hold prayers, mantras and other blessed objects.
And this one still contains its prayer scroll! Inside is an old handwritten Tibetan prayer/mantra scroll, giving the piece a wonderful spiritual and cultural connection beyond simply being decorative.
The Ga'u is suspended from a long strand of rustic hand-carved wooden mala beads, believed to be sandalwood, interspersed with polished sterling silver spacer beads. The warm, aged wood against the intricate silver is absolutely beautiful.
