EDWARDIAN GARNET FOB SHIELD PENDANT.

A quietly powerful relic of the Edwardian era, this exquisite circa 1900s antique fob-style pendant is a beautiful example of early-20th-century craftsmanship, where elegance and symbolism reigned supreme.

Crafted in hallmarked 9ct rose gold, the pendant takes the form of a traditional shield — a shape long associated with protection, honour, strength, and legacy. During the Edwardian period, shield and fob motifs were especially popular, often worn as talismans or suspended from watch chains, symbolising personal values, lineage, and quiet confidence.

The outer shield frame is ornately hand-engraved, displaying delicate scrolling and foliate motifs that flow effortlessly along the contours of the piece. Every engraved line bears the unmistakable signature of true handwork, executed with patience and precision — a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in modern jewellery.

Suspended within the shield is the true heart of the pendant: a large emerald-cut garnet, richly hued in deep wine-red tones that glow with warmth. The garnet is articulated and free-hanging, allowing it to move gently as worn — a subtle yet mesmerising detail that adds life and presence to the piece. It is securely framed in classic prong settings, designed to maximise both light and movement.

The pendant is topped with an elegant, elongated bail, also adorned with engraved detail, giving the entire piece a beautifully balanced vertical flow.

The reverse once bore a full set of Edwardian hallmarks. Over more than a century of wear and love, these marks have sadly softened and worn away — a testament to the pendant’s genuine age and lived history. Despite this, the construction, materials, design language, and wear patterns are entirely consistent with authentic Edwardian 9ct gold jewellery of the early 1900s.

Garnet is the birthstone for January, In Edwardian times, garnet was particularly cherished for its rich colour and symbolic association with heart, bloodline, and legacy.
