A wonderfully generous-sized vintage St Christopher pendant, crafted in solid sterling silver and beautifully rich in traditional symbolism.

The circular medallion features Saint Christopher in raised relief, carrying the Christ Child safely across the river on his shoulders, his staff in hand and stylised waves beneath his feet. I particularly love the finely textured background on this example — it gives the figures wonderful depth while the smooth polished border frames the scene beautifully.

ST CHRISTOPHER — PATRON SAINT OF TRAVELLERS

For generations, St Christopher medals have been carried and worn as symbols of protection and safe passage, particularly by travellers, motorists, sailors and adventurers. They were also traditionally given to loved ones before a journey — making them wonderfully sentimental pieces of jewellery.

This is a larger and more substantial example than the little St Christopher medals we so often find, giving it fantastic presence worn alone or layered amongst other talismans.
