An antique 1895 British Sterling Silver One Shilling coin, beautifully transformed into a colourful enamelled sweetheart / love token.
The reverse has been intricately enamelled, picking out the heraldic shields of England, Scotland and Ireland, surrounded by rich cobalt blue enamel, while the original obverse remains visible with Queen Victoria’s Old/Veiled Head portrait.
During the 18th & 19th centuries, coins were often altered, engraved or enamelled to become personal keepsakes and love tokens — sentimental little objects associated with love, courtship, remembrance and important people or events.
Measurements : The coin measures 2.3cm in diameter and weight of 4.8 grams.
