This stunning heritage piece represents one of China’s most meaningful traditional jewelry forms — the “Shòu Suǒ” (壽鎖) or Longevity Lock. These were auspicious amulets given to children or loved ones to “lock in” life, fortune, and protection from evil spirits. Crafted in solid sterling silver, this exceptional example showcases the refined repoussé and chased silverwork typical of late 19th–early 20th century Qing artisans.
The large cloud-shaped central pendant features:
A stylized Chinese character in seal script representing “Shòu” (壽) — Longevity, framed by auspicious bat motifs (fú), symbols of happiness and good fortune.
The reverse side is adorned with two celestial lions (Foo Dogs or guardian lions) flanking a sacred pearl, a motif representing power, protection, and divine blessings.
Three dangling silver floral links terminate in ornate silver gourd-shaped drops, each symbolizing health and prosperity, with additional turquoise and coral beads — a combination long believed to bring spiritual balance, vitality, and protection.
