ULTRA RARE FIND ! Antique Austro-Hungarian Sterling Silver and Natural Persian Turquoise Waterfall Brooch (Circa 1867–1900).

An opulent cascade of history and gemstone artistry.
This extraordinary antique brooch hails from the height of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, dating from circa 1867 to the early 1900s — a period defined by its romantic revivalist tastes and richly decorative artistry. Masterfully crafted in sterling silver, the piece once boasted a layer of gold vermeil (gilding), traces of which still peek through the patina, a subtle testament to its regal past. The remaining oxidation and wear only enhance its antique charm and speak to its authentic age.

The brooch features a magnificent "waterfall" or festooned dangle design, with three tiers of articulation: a small bar pin suspends a central turquoise cabochon flanked by petite round turquoise cabs, followed by twin beaded chains that link to an elaborate and symmetrical openwork scroll panel, intricately designed with curled repoussé flourishes and traditional Austro-Hungarian foliate detailing.

Dangling from the lower edge are three bezel-set turquoise cabochon drops in graduated sizes, which swing gently with movement, creating a rhythmic and elegant kinetic effect.

The back of the brooch reveals intricate openwork metalwork — highly typical of Austro-Hungarian jewelry — showcasing a precision-cut, symmetrical filigree-like scroll design.

Authentic Austro-Hungarian turquoise brooches of this size, intricacy, and condition are rare to find on the open market today. Similar museum-quality pieces often fetch between R8,000 to R12,000+, depending on the condition, gemstone quality, and provenance.
