Antique Circa 1920s Hand-Painted Miniature Portrait Brooch/Pendant in 800 Silver.
This generous-sized antique brooch/pendant dates to the 1920s and is a splendid example of early 20th-century craftsmanship. The piece is crafted from 800-grade silver, as evidenced by its rich patina and oxidation that has developed naturally over time — a charming testament to its age and authenticity.
At the heart of the brooch lies a hand-painted miniature portrait, masterfully rendered on what appears to be either ivory or ivorine, capturing the delicate features of a young Victorian-era lady. Her soft curls, refined expression, and flowing attire—complete with a dainty lace bonnet—exude timeless elegance and aristocratic poise. The portrait is protected beneath a bevelled glass dome, which not only enhances its visual depth but also preserves it beautifully.
The oval portrait is cradled within an ornate filigree silver frame, intricately worked with scrolling motifs and delicate beaded granulation accents. The openwork design adds a touch of lightness and airiness to the piece, contrasting delightfully with the richness of the central miniature.
At the reverse, you’ll find a sturdy hinged pin with a secure C-clasp, along with a fold-down hidden bail, allowing this treasure to be worn either as a brooch or as a pendant—versatile and elegant in equal measure.
A wearable work of art, steeped in history and sentiment.
