RARE FIND!! – Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Novelty Elephant Pin Cushion By Adie & Lovekin Ltd – Hallmarked Birmingham, 1906.

A truly charming and highly sought-after piece of Edwardian whimsy, this delightful miniature elephant pin cushion is crafted in solid sterling silver by the famed Birmingham silversmiths Adie & Lovekin Ltd, dated 1906.

Shaped as a proud walking elephant, this little treasure showcases lovely detailing to the face, trunk, body, and tail.

The hollowed saddle-top once housed its original textile pin cushion, now worn away with age—evidence of a life well-loved across more than a century. A fresh cushion can be fitted if desired, though many collectors prefer leaving them as found to preserve their authentic journey.

These whimsical figural pin cushions were made during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras and were originally cherished as sweet sewing-table novelties.

Today, Adie & Lovekin examples are amongst the most collected, with animal forms—especially elephants—being the most desirable.Comparable elephant pin cushions have achieved $240–$360 USD (approx. R4 500–R7 000+) at reputable auctions worldwide.

Founded in Birmingham in 1879, Adie & Lovekin quickly became celebrated for their finely crafted small silver novelties, especially animals. Working during the golden age of British silver novelty production, they created exquisite miniature objects—pincushions, bell pushes, trinket boxes, and decorative items—emphasizing playful, figural forms

Their pin cushions, often designed as elephants, pigs, owls, hedgehogs, and dogs, have become icons of Edwardian collectable silver, beloved for their character and craftsmanship.

Measurements : The pin cushion measures 4.2cm x 2.7cm x 1.6cm and weight of 12 grams.
