RARE ! Stunning Antique Late Georgian era 9ct Yellow Gold and Black Enamel Mourning Brooch.The bevelled glass front is underlain by braided hair and the the reverse engraved
" Sarah Edwards on 23 July 1821 at 68 "Beautiful decorative floral surround.

The brooch is not signed but tested and confirmed to be 9ct Gold - The Pin at the back is Metal and not Gold.
I think this brooch will make an marvelous ring aswell if remodeled.

Mourning jewellery dates back to the 1600s but gained huge popularity in the 1800s when Queen Victoria mourned the death of her beloved Albert. The Georgians wore mourning jewellery with dark, macabre themes. Popular motifs included skeletons, gravediggers and coffins.
