This antique ethnic/tribal Omani Bedouin Hirz amulet necklace is crafted in solid sterling silver and features a compact rectangular prayer box adorned with deeply repousséd geometric and botanical motifs. The repeated leaf-and-petal framework symbolises growth, divine protection, and blessing.
Traditionally, a Hirz (also written Herz or Hiriz) serves as a protective talisman, worn close to the heart.
Inside, small scriptures, Quranic verses, or written incantations were sealed by a spiritual figure to safeguard the wearer from misfortune, illness, and the evil eye. These precious amulets were passed down through families, often worn daily by Bedouin women or hung among wedding jewels as symbols of faith, lineage, and safe passage.
This example retains its handsome oxidised patina, enhancing every ridge and motif. Two sturdy suspension loops connect to the traditional long chain—original to the piece—allowing it to sit as a strong statement necklace with powerful cultural grounding.
