RARE FIND!!! Antique Victorian circa 1870's Tortoise Shell and Gold/Silver Pique brooch.
The domed brooch has an 9ct Yellow Gold and Silver floral bouquet in the center with an circle motif around the outside includind smaller bouquets of flowers and Crescent Moons. The pique pin has a concave back with a tubular and c-clasp closure.
The technique for making pique, inlaying gold and silver into shell or ivory, was brought to England by the Huguenots when they were expelled from France in the late 17th Century. Pique jewelry blossomed in the late 1800's.
Note : The brooch does have 3 small chips located on the backside of the rim.
