RARE FIND !! Antique Victorian-Era Etruscan Revival Double Coiled Serpent Cuff Bangle in 800 Silver.
A bold echo of ancient mystery and Victorian imagination, this antique double-headed serpent cuff bangle is a striking example of Etruscan Revival artistry in silver.
Forged in 800-grade silver—a standard commonly used in continental Europe—this solid and sculptural wrap bangle coils with undeniable presence and power, its darkened antique patina lending it an air of ancient treasure freshly unearthed.
Each terminal of the cuff features the intricately modeled head of a snake, rising from a faceted body coiled in a helix that mimics serpentine movement. The coiling wraps atop rounded domes, giving the impression of resting serpent guardians. The snakes’ eyes, nostrils, and scales are superbly defined, and just below their tails, a delicate crown-like filigree ridge adds a subtle regality.
This bangle hails from the Victorian period (1837–1901), when Etruscan Revival jewelry surged in popularity. Inspired by archaeological discoveries in Italy, Victorian jewelers reinterpreted ancient Roman and Etruscan motifs using their own techniques and sentimental flair.
The serpent motif held powerful symbolic meaning during the era. After Prince Albert gifted Queen Victoria a snake ring symbolizing eternal love and wisdom, serpents became the romantic and mystical motif of the time. In Etruscan and Roman cultures, serpents were protectors of sacred spaces and symbols of regeneration and immortality.
Comparable Etruscan Revival silver serpent bangles from the Victorian era sell online between $170 and $370 (R3100 to R6800), depending on condition, detail, and provenance. This piece is particularly rare due to its double serpent motif, coiled wrap design, and preserved oxidized finish—a true collector’s piece that bridges antiquity and Victorian romance.
