Antique Victorian Rose-Gold Plated Mesh Watch Fob with Faux Sapphire Accent
c. 1880–1900.
The body of the fob is crafted in a supple woven mesh, a specialty technique popular in the late 19th century, mimicking chainmail but with a luxurious, fabric-like drape. It is richly rose-gold plated, aged to a warm honey tone that only Victorian plating achieves.
At centre, the mesh is punctuated by a deep midnight-blue faux sapphire cabochon, tube-set and framed by a tailored V-shaped gold overlay. The gemstone provides a subtle pop of colour against the warm rose-gold backdrop. Two additional gold-plated V-shaped terminals accent the lower length of the mesh, adding a layered, shield-like geometry—very characteristic of Victorian watch accessories.
The top is fitted with its original chain and dog-clip clasp, making it easy to suspend from a chain, albertina, ribbon, or as a charm from a larger pocket-watch assemblage. The dog-clip is stamped, enhancing its authenticity.
