Now THIS is something different! Dating to the Edwardian era, circa 1900–1910s, this fabulous antique brass hair clip is the first example of its kind I’ve ever managed to find!

Beautifully constructed in brass, the curved front features an elegant openwork lattice design, creating a repeating geometric diamond pattern between simple polished borders. The reverse retains its long hinged pin/clip mechanism, designed to slide securely into an Edwardian hairstyle.

Hair ornaments were an important part of fashionable dressing during this period, when women wore their hair swept up into elaborate buns, pompadours and chignons. While decorative combs and hairpins survive in reasonable numbers, these smaller functional-yet-decorative clips are such wonderful little pieces of wearable social history.

I especially love the untouched aged brass patina — more than a century of character that gives this little beauty its gorgeous antique warmth.

A wonderfully unusual survivor from the Edwardian dressing table and an absolute treat for collectors of antique jewellery and accessories!
