SUPER RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER TREASURE!
Extremely rare Antique late Victorian early Edwardian Arts and Crafts era Hallmarked Silver and Saphiret Glass Cabochons bar brooch.Manufactured in Hallmarked Sterling Silver and prong set with three superb and large frosted Saphirets ( Round and Pear) exhibiting the most stunning colour play, this piece is a collectors dream come true.

The colour play is the finest ive seen, dusky russet pinky/red rolling into vivid and bright almost iridescent Sapphire Blue.

Seldom do these fully Hallmarked early pieces of Saphiret jewellery present to the market and I am thrilled to offer such a piece.

Made by William Griffiths & Sons in Chester circa 1901 and Hallmarked accordingly.

I cant even begin to explain how rare and sought after true Saphiret pieces are today.

A very similar silver and 3 Saphiret brooch made by William Griffiths recently sold for well over R10 000!!

Saphiret Glass was made in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia in the mid-19th century by mixing melted gold into sapphire-colored glass. The result was a Glass which looked brick red or brown, but reflected blue on the surface. Because they are glass, these stones are rarely found in precious metal findings. All the pieces I've owned are brass or gold-filled. Occasionally, you will see a faceted saphiret stone in a gold Victorian ring.

The rarity of Saphiret is due to the high production costs it took to make.  Eventually the price of gold would become too high for production of saphiret to continue and remain profitable and so production of the stone was stopped. This is one of the main reasons saphiret is so desirable to collectors today as there is a limited amount in circulation

Measurements: The brooch with a length of 3.6cm x 1.3cm wide. The Round Saphiret measures 1.2cm in diameter , the two Pear cut Saphirets each measure 1.1cm x 9mm.Brooch with a total weight of 5.7grams.
