How fabulously quirky are these!! A wonderfully playful pair of contemporary South African designer earrings by Geraldine Fenn, combining a little macabre humour with a gorgeous pop of bright red.

Each earring features a miniature carved red howlite skull, complete with darkened eye sockets and tiny skeletal detailing, suspended above a glossy blood-red glass teardrop bead. The combination gives them a wonderfully cheeky Memento Mori / Day of the Dead feel without being overly gothic.

Finished with simple sterling silver shepherd hooks, they are lightweight and beautifully wearable, with just enough movement from those little red drops.

GERALDINE FENN
Fenn is a highly regarded Johannesburg-based contemporary jeweller, known for handmade, figurative and often wonderfully unconventional jewellery. Her work frequently combines precious metals with unusual beads, found objects and unexpected materials, and she notes that she rarely makes the same piece twice — making her jewellery particularly appealing to collectors.

Her background is equally fascinating: she originally studied Archaeology and Classical Civilisation at Wits, followed by Jewellery Design and later a Master's in Fine Art — influences that help explain the recurring historical, figurative and slightly eccentric imagery found throughout her work.
