Now THIS is a serious turquoise piece!! A fabulous antique Chinese export silver and natural turquoise three-strand choker-length necklace, absolutely loaded with beautifully irregular turquoise nuggets.

The necklace comprises THREE generous strands of natural turquoise, displaying that gorgeous vivid blue-green colour with wonderfully characteristic dark spiderweb matrix running through many of the stones. The irregular shapes give the necklace a wonderfully organic, old-world character — no two stones are quite alike.

What really elevates this piece are the three ornate silver stations. Each rectangular station is decorated with additional turquoise cabochons surrounded by beautifully detailed silver work, while the third cleverly forms the necklace's push-in box clasp. The clasp is stamped for silver in Chinese.

Chinese turquoise jewellery has a fascinating history, with turquoise treasured in China for centuries and later becoming particularly desirable in export jewellery made for Western markets.

Antique multi-strand examples of this scale are considerably harder to find than the more commonly encountered single-strand necklaces.
