RARE FIND! 1930s ART DECO | DoSo PANEL COLLAR NECKLACE & MATCHING EARRINGS.
Now THIS is pure Art Deco glamour! An absolutely fabulous and increasingly difficult-to-find circa 1930s costume jewellery suite, consisting of a dramatic geometric panel collar necklace together with its matching clip-on earrings.
Attributed to the jewellery associated with Schreiber & Hiller / Esha Randel, the necklace is marked “DoSo”.
The design couldn't be more gloriously Art Deco. The necklace is constructed from a graduated series of rectangular silvertone panels, each centred by a dark, wonderfully iridescent abalone shell slab, flashing shades of purple, blue and green as it catches the light. Each abalone centre is surrounded by a beautifully contrasting geometric mother-of-pearl frame.
Running between and alongside the panels are rows of sparkling paste rhinestones, channel-set in that wonderfully architectural style so characteristic of jewellery from the 1930s.
Schreiber & Hiller were particularly associated with innovative stone-setting techniques during this period, including patented methods of setting imitation stones securely into metal channels.
Even better, the original matching clip-on earrings have survived with it! Each repeats the necklace's rectangular abalone and mother-of-pearl panel design with sparkling rhinestone detailing.
Similar period DoSo / Schreiber & Hiller Art Deco panel necklaces are currently offered online around £100–£150 (approximately R2,100–R2,800) — and that's generally for the necklace alone, without the fabulous matching earrings.
