RARE FIND! | VICTORIAN CRESCENT MOON & ARROW BROOCH.

Ohhh this is a FABULOUS piece of Victorian celestial jewellery! Dating to the late 19th century, this antique brooch is crafted in sterling silver and designed as an elegant arrow piercing straight through a crescent moon — beautifully set throughout with sparkling antique paste stones.

The detailing is wonderful. The feathered fletching of the arrow is individually picked out with paste, the pointed arrowhead carries its own sparkling accent, while the crescent is graduated with stones and dramatically frames a larger round paste stone suspended within its centre. The darkened, naturally aged silver gives the stones that unmistakable antique sparkle and contrast.

VICTORIAN SYMBOLISM — Celestial jewellery was enormously fashionable during the Victorian period. The crescent moon was associated with change, femininity, mystery and new beginnings, while the arrow traditionally represented direction, purpose and love — particularly through its association with Cupid. Together they create such a romantic little Victorian talisman!

PASTE JEWELLERY should never be dismissed as simply “costume”. Fine Georgian and Victorian paste was deliberately cut and set to imitate precious gemstones and could involve beautifully skilled workmanship. Today, good antique paste jewellery has become highly collectible in its own right.

And this particular crescent-and-arrow combination is a RARE FIND. Similar antique examples on the international market are currently being priced in the region of R4,500–R6,000, depending on condition, size and construction.

A wonderfully romantic survivor from the Victorian era — celestial, symbolic and absolutely dripping with old-world character!

Measurements :The brooch measures 4.5cm x 1.1cm and weight of 3.6 grams.
