The two strands offer a layered and dynamic appearance, with a perfect balance between the upper and lower strands.
The strands showcase a variety of bead shapes, from round to teardrop.
The glass beads are masterfully crafted to mimic natural lapis lazuli.
The necklace incorporates ornate brass filigree caps and pendants, adding vintage warmth and contrast to the bold blue beads.
Vibrant lime green enamel detailing on the pendants provides a striking Art Deco aesthetic, highlighting geometric and symmetrical designs.
The brass pendants are intricately detailed, featuring scrollwork and enamel accents, characteristic of the Neiger Brothers’ style.
The drop design at the clasp end adds a finishing flourish, ensuring that even the back of the necklace exudes elegance.
The Neiger brothers, Max and Norbert, were famous Czech jewelry designers in the early 20th century, particularly between the 1920s and 1930s. Known for their intricate craftsmanship and distinctive style, their pieces often featured elements inspired by Egyptian, Asian, and Art Deco aesthetics.
Despite their popularity, they never signed their jewelry, making identification based on design elements essential. Their use of high-quality glass stones, meticulous construction (such as the leaf accents ,rope borders and specific prong settings seen in this necklace), and dedication to detail have made their creations highly sought-after among collectors.
The Neiger brothers came to a tragic end. When WWII began they moved their operations to Bohemia, thinking it would be safe. It was not.
As the Germans advanced near Gablonz in 1939, the two Jewish brothers left their factory and escaped to Bohemia, where they continued to produce jewellery in a scaled-down operation. They were later arrested in Prague and, in 1942, were exterminated at Auschwitz.
