A marvelous survivor from the golden age of sport! This hallmarked sterling silver fob shield pendant carries with it nearly a century of history, crafted with fine detail by one of Birmingham’s most respected silversmithing firms.
The fob is shaped as a shield medal, its outer edge adorned with foliate flourishes and crowned with a thistle-inspired finial. At its heart rests a raised circular medallion in deep relief, capturing a vigorous sporting scene of rugby/football players in full motion—muscular figures frozen mid-battle for possession, their energy and determination immortalized in silver.
This piece was made by William Adams Ltd, a distinguished silversmithing firm founded in 1865. By the 1920s, the company was renowned for producing fine silverware, vanity items, and sporting medals that were awarded to schoolboys, athletes, and clubs across Britain. Such fob shields stood as tangible symbols of accomplishment and pride during the heyday of amateur sport.
Measurements : The fob shield pendant measure 3cm x 2.6cm and weight of 5 grams.
