Such a fabulous piece of 1960s German vintage jewellery! This beautiful Amerikaner rolled-gold necklace is designed in the classic Cleopatra/collar style, sitting elegantly around the base of the neck.

The front is formed from individually articulated graduated rectangular panels, each finished with a wonderful textured surface that catches the light beautifully. The panels gradually increase in length towards the centre, creating that unmistakable Egyptian Revival-inspired Cleopatra silhouette.

ABOUT AMERIKANER “Amerikaner” or Amerikaner Gold is a term commonly encountered on older German and Central European jewellery. Rather than indicating solid gold, it generally refers to a durable gold-covered/rolled-gold type finish over a base metal, produced to give jewellery the rich appearance of gold at a more accessible price. Good vintage examples have often survived remarkably well, which is why Amerikaner jewellery remains collectible today.
