“The Hunter’s Trophy” – Antique Victorian Fox Pendant in 835 Silver with Natural Fangs.
Crafted from 835 silver, the pendant presents a masterfully three-dimensional repoussé fox head, its features finely detailed with lifelike fur texture, piercing eyes, and pointed ears that capture the cunning essence of the animal.
On either side of the fox’s noble face sit two genuine fox fangs, securely held in ornate silver foliate prongs fashioned as oak leaves—a symbols of strength, endurance, and triumph. The oak motif was often used in Victorian hunting jewelry to emphasize victory over nature and to immortalize the chase.
Suspended from a robust bail, the pendant was likely worn proudly on a watch chain, chatelaine, or as a fob, marking its wearer as part of the hunting elite.
During the Victorian era (1837–1901), hunting jewelry became a popular way to showcase both wealth and passion for sport. Such pieces were often commissioned after successful hunts, serving as keepsakes or trophies in miniature form. This example, with its unusual combination of silver artistry and real organic elements, is a striking survivor.
