The Cornicello (Italian for “little horn”) traces its roots back thousands of years:

In ancient Roman times, horns symbolised strength, virility, and divine protection.

It was associated with Luna, the moon goddess, and the waxing crescent — a sign of growth and fortune.
It later became one of Italy’s most iconic talismans against malocchio, the Evil Eye.

Carved originally from coral, bone, or horn, these symbols travelled across the Mediterranean, worn by everyone from merchants to mothers wishing luck upon their children.

By the late 1800s to mid-1900s, silversmiths across Italy began crafting them in 800 silver, a hallmark fineness used extensively in Italian jewellery before sterling (.925) became standard.
