This antique Scottish brooch from circa 1916, made by Adie & Lovekin Ltd in Chester, is a remarkable piece featuring hallmarked sterling silver, citrine, and rare lime-green guilloché enamel. The design is deeply symbolic, embodying Scottish heritage, craftsmanship, and status.

The thistle is Scotland’s national emblem, symbolizing strength, resilience, and protection. Legend has it that a thistle once saved a Scottish army from a surprise attack when a barefoot enemy soldier stepped on one and cried out, alerting the Scots.

The three-dimensional execution of the thistle in sterling silver gives the brooch a lifelike quality, enhancing its symbolism of pride and endurance.
The faceted citrine, cut into an elongated hexagonal shape, represents prosperity, success, and warmth.
The lime-green guilloché enamel is exceptionally rare in Scottish brooches, making this a highly collectible piece.

The circular belt frame enclosing the thistle resembles a Scottish clan badge, which was worn as a symbol of loyalty and belonging.

The ornate engraved details at the bottom of the circle further reinforce the sense of Scottish regality and craftsmanship.

Adie & Lovekin Ltd was a renowned Birmingham-based silversmith firm known for their fine silverware, including jewelry, novelty items, and decorative pieces.

The Chester assay mark (1916) confirms the brooch's authenticity and date, placing it in the late Edwardian period, just before the Art Deco movement took over.
