RARE TREASURE!!!1940s French Louis Rousselet Handmade Brooch with Poured Glass Petals.
This exquisite vintage 1940s handmade costume brooch is a rare and coveted creation by none other than Louis Rousselet, the famed French designer whose work once graced the gowns of Parisian socialites and showgirls alike.
The brooch is a poetic symphony of poured glass petals, turquoise spirals, and delicate seed beads, all hand-wired onto an ornate gilt filigree backing. With a tactile richness that’s nearly painterly, the design showcases faux turquoise beads coiling like vines, glass pearls nestled like morning dew, and floral petals formed from Rousselet’s signature poured glass technique—a hallmark of quality and rarity in early 20th-century French costume jewelry. It is secured with a traditional trombone clasp, typical of French brooches from this era.
While the brooch is signed "France", it bears no direct Louis Rousselet hallmark—a common trait, as Rousselet’s pieces were originally marked only with paper tags, many of which are now long lost to time. Nonetheless, the craftsmanship and material composition are consistent with verified Rousselet works, and collectors continue to recognize and prize these gems for their artistry and legacy.
Comparable Rousselet brooches typically retail between $125 (R2200) and $300 (R5400) and some even higher, depending on condition and design.
Louis Rousselet was a master glass artisan who began his Parisian jewelry workshop in the early 20th century. Initially trained in lampwork glass techniques, he became renowned for producing high-quality poured glass beads and pearls, which were used in both his own designs and for major fashion houses. His pieces were entirely handmade by skilled artisans, often young women known as "les petites mains", and featured labor-intensive wire-wrapped constructions using brass, glass, and filigree settings.
Today, his creations are highly collectible and treasured for their exceptional craftsmanship and old-world elegance.
