RARE FIND!!This is a beautifully preserved antique late Georgian-era framed silhouette dating to circa 1830.(Almost 200 years old)

The silhouette is a finely cut black profile of a young female figure, showcasing a detailed hairstyle typical of the early 19th century. The headpiece or bonnet detail suggests a fashionable style of the era.
It is mounted on an aged, golden-brown paper backing, which further accentuates its historical character.

The silhouette is housed in a small, rectangular, black lacquered wooden frame with subtle signs of age, including slight surface wear and minor cracks, adding to its antique charm.

The inner border features a gold-toned lining, which highlights and frames the silhouette beautifully.
On the back, there is a handwritten note on the paper backing, which reads:
“Louisa Muirhead
Halifax, N.S.
1830”
This provides a clear identification of the subject, origin (Halifax, Nova Scotia), and date of creation, adding provenance and significance to the piece.

This type of silhouette was a common form of portraiture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, before photography became widespread.
The fact that this silhouette has a specific name and location linked to it makes it particularly valuable for collectors and historians.

Louisa Muirhead, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1830, was the daughter of George Muirhead and Martha Munro, who married on November 6, 1812, in Halifax County.

The Muirhead family was among the early settlers in Nova Scotia, contributing to the region's development during the early 19th century.

This silhouette likely depicts Louisa as an infant or young child, offering a rare glimpse into early Canadian portraiture and the Muirhead family's heritage.
