RARE FIND – Oversized Antique German Shooting Award Medal/Pendant, 1914.
This magnificent oversized medal is an exceptional relic of German craftsmanship and tradition, forged in solid 800 silver and dated 1914. Once proudly awarded as a Schützenverein (marksmen’s guild) prize, it embodies the heritage of skill, honor, and camaraderie in competitive shooting culture of the early 20th century.
The medal is crafted in an impressive three-tier drop form:
At the top rests a regal imperial crown, richly detailed with Cross finial and heraldic double-headed eagles, symbolizing authority and sovereign blessing.
Suspended below, the centerpiece takes the shape of a large Maltese-style cross, encircled by a finely worked oak-leaf wreath, representing strength, endurance, and victory. Resting proudly on the Cross is an ornate armorial shield, surmounted by a crested knight’s helm with flowing mantling—evoking the noble traditions of heraldry and chivalry. The shield remains unengraved, offering an evocative blank canvas of honor.
Completing the composition, a small floral-style Cross pendant dangles at the base, adding movement and symbolic flourish.
The reverse bears a hand-engraved dedication: “Loizen Standmeistersceibe S. V. 14” – denoting it as a Standmeister (shooting master) award of 1914. Above the inscription rests the silver purity mark “800”, ensuring authenticity and collectible value.
