The central motif is a vivid floral design: a radiant red coral cabochon blooms at the heart, encircled by a halo of lush sky-blue oval turquoise cabochons, each prong-set in a neat radiating pattern reminiscent of a desert flower in full blossom.
Flanking the central flower are meticulously crafted repoussé leaf and tendril motifs, enhanced by coiled wire scrollwork and silver bead accents that evoke the organic lines of nature. These decorative elements seem to sprout from the sides of the cuff, as if the bracelet itself is alive and growing.
The bracelet’s strong yet flexible open-cuff form allows for easy wear while honoring the traditional Navajo style, celebrated for its harmony between metalwork and the natural beauty of gemstones.
This style of bracelet is rooted in the Navajo silversmithing tradition, which flourished in the late 19th century after Navajo artisans learned silversmithing from Mexican plateros (silversmiths).
From around the 1880s onward, Navajo jewelers became renowned for blending traditional Native designs with European and Spanish techniques, often highlighting turquoise and coral as primary stones.
The use of split shank cuffs, bold floral centerpieces, and repoussé (stamped and shaped) leafwork became hallmarks of Navajo-inspired jewelry by the early to mid-20th century. Pieces like this one continue to be cherished not only for their rugged, beautiful craftsmanship but also for the deep cultural storytelling they carry, celebrating nature, balance, and spiritual guardianship.
