The necklace features a captivating string of flat, disc-shaped beads crafted in clear and yellow Murano glass, each infused with flecks of sparkling copper aventurine — a traditional decorative inclusion known as “aventurina.” These fiery metallic glints catch the light with every movement, giving the beads a magical, glowing quality reminiscent of golden stardust suspended in glass. Each large glass bead is capped with ornate antiqued brass filigree bead caps, adding a delicate, old-world finish.
Interspersed between these central beads are soft yellow button-shaped glass spacers, which create contrast, rhythm, and enhance the luxurious retro feel. The necklace is finished with a period-appropriate brass screw barrel clasp — a detail that helps date the piece accurately to the 1950s.
This necklace hails from the golden era of Murano glass jewelry in the 1950s — a time when Venetian artisans began exporting bold, fashionable pieces to the American and European markets post-World War II. Murano, a small island off the coast of Venice, has been the heart of glassmaking since the 13th century. The use of aventurine glass was a prized innovation developed by Murano artisans as early as the 1600s — the coppery shimmer was achieved by adding real copper filings to molten glass, a technique carefully guarded for generations.
