A true treasure from the high Victorian era, this chunky sterling silver C-shaped cuff bangle embodies the opulence and refined craftsmanship of the 1870s
Richly decorated in the Etruscan Revival style, the bangle’s front features a beautifully engraved central band of scrolling floral motifs, framed on both sides by ornate,decorative borders — a hallmark of the revival movement that drew inspiration from ancient Etruscan goldwork.
The back of the bangle is smooth and polished, showcasing a finely hand-engraved monogram “MCP”, likely the initials of the original owner.
The bracelet is designed in the classic C-shape — a popular form during the mid- to late-19th century — and includes a delicate safety chain for extra security, a feature often added to high-value bangles of the era.
Originally, this bangle would have been fitted with a traditional tongue-in-groove push clasp, but it has since been updated with a Victorian-era “Pivot” patented clasp — a mechanical innovation from the late 19th century designed for added strength and ease of use. This alteration is sympathetic to the period and does not detract from the bangle’s beauty or value.
The Etruscan Revival style surged in popularity during the mid-Victorian era after archaeological discoveries in Italy uncovered exquisite ancient Etruscan gold jewelry.
