Rare Find! Vintage 1950s German Milk Glass Floral Panel Choker Necklace.
Crafted in West Germany during the 1950s, it showcases the highly prized milk glass — a luscious, opaque white glass popular from the Victorian era well into the mid-20th century. Milk glass was favored for its dreamy, porcelain-like appearance, imitating fine ceramics but with the resilience of glass.
The necklace features a series of bold, irregular pentagon-shaped milk glass panels, each beautifully polished to a high shine. Five of these panels are hand-painted with delightful floral bouquets, each brushstroke capturing the bright cheerfulness of 1950s florals in vivid reds, blues, yellows, and greens
These painted details reflect the artistry and care of West German jewelry workshops at the time, where enamel-like paint was painstakingly applied by hand and then fired to preserve its color.
Separating each panel are delicate goldtone spacers, adding a subtle gleam and enhancing the articulation of the necklace for a comfortable drape. The upper section is finished with a series of round white beads, connected by classic brass links, giving the necklace an adjustable fit thanks to its spring-ring clasp.
This style of necklace — combining milk glass panels with folk-inspired floral painting — was widely worn in the 1950s and remains highly collectible today. It perfectly evokes the romantic, optimistic aesthetic of postwar Europe, where handcrafted costume jewelry flourished.
Similar pieces are currently commanding prices between $150 (roughly R2,600) and $180 (about R3,100) on the vintage market, a testament to their enduring appeal and craftsmanship
